Thanks to the New Jersey Society of Professional Journalists this week for naming Meadowlands Matters as the state’s Best Media-Affiliated Blog for 2014.
I’ve always said, if you’re in this business for the awards, you aren’t doing it right. But recognition is still always appreciated – and fortunately this blog has been appreciated repeatedly.
Prior to this recognition:
In Nov. 2013, Brennan was chosen by the North American group Harness Horsemen International as the winner of its prestigious Clyde Hirt Media Award for keeping horsemen abreast of the future of iconic Meadowlands Racetrack, particularly via blog posts.
In Aug. 2012, the New Jersey chapter of the U.S. Harness Racing Writers Association also bestowed the “Media Award” on these blog efforts that have been devoted to covering that sport.
And the Meadowlands Matters blog also was chosen in Feb. 2011 as “Best Blog” by the New Jersey Press Association – the first time the NJPA had fielded such a category.
More important, though, is the tremendous amount of feedback I’ve gotten from insiders all over since the blog began in 2010 – the horse racing industry, the casino industry, sports betting experts, online gaming analysts, arena and stadium financing experts, sports franchise ownership experts, sports and entertainment ticket brokers, entertainment center insiders – and I know I’m missing a number of sectors still, but you get the idea.
The more tips I get, the better the blog is, the better our website is, and the better the newspaper is. So keep the communication coming – and give yourselves a round of applause as well. You deserve it.
