Guest post from colleague Linda Moss:

“Several major North Jersey real estate companies have submitted bids to purchase the biggest parcel of developable land left in the Meadowlands, a 718-acre tract that was part of the ill-fated EnCap golf and housing project.

Development of the Kingsland site, once a sea of landfills, could be an economic boon to North Jersey, creating jobs and generating tax revenue, local business officials said. Experts say the tract could accommodate up to 2 million square feet of industrial space, although portions are zoned for other uses such as solar farms, data centers, recreation, and hotels. The Kingsland redevelopment could bolster the Meadowlands’ position as a hub for warehouse and distribution facilities.

“It hopefully turns out to be a positive, happy ending to the sad story of EnCap,” said Thomas Bruinooge, a Rutherford attorney who specializes in real estate and development law.”

This is the site that Donald Trump decided to take over in late 2007. He once took me on a tour of the site – “Trump at the Dump,” we called it – where he was going to revamp the golf course design and build a replica of The Spanish Steps and… ok, when I get back to the office today or tomorrow, I’ll dig up the details for those who weren’t around for that saga.
